Witchy Star And Moon Cape

I actually finished a sewing project! This cape had been laying in the unfinished projects pile for quite a while. I'd hoped to get it done in time for October, but then life got busy, and I finally finished it at the beginning of this year. It's quite good timing though, as the cape is waterproof, and I think it will be a good light waterproof layer once the weather is a little warmer.

It's made from something I thrifted, which I think was some kind of travel blackout blind for babies. I just saw stars and moons and knew I had to make a cape out of it.

The shape was based on another cape I own-I basically just lay it on the fabric and drew around it. As a result it's not perfect, and the hood shaping is a little off, but overall I think I did pretty well!

It has snap fasteners sewn along the front to do it up.

There's also a tie at the waist, which cinches it in a little and creates a bit of separation for the arms. I like this design because it makes it much easier to move my arms around, without the whole cape shifting around and falling out of place.

There's a lot I would do differently if I made this cape again, but I learned a lot while doing it and I think it turned out as a pretty cute little witch cape! I'm looking forward to incorporating it into some outfits in future.

  1. Oh, how lovely! It reminds me so much of Little Witch Academia!
I think a velvet version would look stunning, too.

  2. Beautiful! This is such a lovely cape Polly, the design is lovely and look so cute and knowing you made this makes it even more special. I know what you mean about projects becoming unfinished too, I've got several I've started and then forgotten about, but the satisfaction of finishing them and having something this nice to wear is worth it! You look stunning, and I love the fact it's waterproof too! - Tasha
