Summer Blaise

Back in early summer I went to the Blaise Castle Estate, the former grounds of a mansion house which is now a public space. In addition to some naturally occurring features, the parkland was landscaped to provide interest on carriage rides, and the result is a place which looks like it is straight out of a fairy tale. The combination of whimsical features and beautiful nature is perfect for me.

There's even a tiny castle-a folly built in the Gothic style-which was looking particularly magical on the spectacularly sunny day I visited, surrounded by patches of daisies.

It was baking hot, so the shade of the woods was lovely. The dappled light was especially beautiful.

Following the river gave some much needed cool respite, and rewarded me with the sight of gorgeous yellow flag iris growing at the water's edge.

This time it was just a quick visit, but I'm hoping to go back to this place much more often. I would love to see how it looks in autumn, with all the turning leaves.
