Iridescent Mermaid Garland

After making my white paper gem garland I still had a little bit of the shimmery white wrapping paper I used left, so I decided to make a mermaid themed garland to use it up. I used real scallop shells as a template, then I cut out three bigger shell shapes and two smaller ones.

I scored each one with a craft knife and a ruler, and then folded the scored lines to give a 3D effect. I glued a faux pearl cabochon to each paper shell, and strung them onto some iridescent white thread.

The final touch was some iridescent scale cabochons, which I glued onto the thread and backed with some silver paper to hold them in place. I think the garland came out super pretty and mermaid-y! I might make more in different colours, maybe a darker one with more of a sea witch theme.

  1. I love this idea! You can add details to fit all seasons like little pumpkins for Halloween or holly leaves for Christmas! Defo gonna make some! Xxx
