#CreativeKickstart May

#CreativeKickstart is a hashtag to share what we've been making and being inspired by each month, created by my merfriend Cuttlefishlove. I kept up with it for a few months last year but then lost track. This year I want to post a photo for each month. I think it will be really interesting to look back at the end of the year and see my creative journey!

The Importance of Sadness, Mourning, and Anger

There have been a lot of very saddening, heart breaking, and rage inducing events recently. It has been a really rough few weeks and for many of us, it will take a while to return to something approaching normal. But even as these horrible, miserable things have unfolded, I have seen and heard a lot of people telling people who are upset or angry to "get over it" or "move on", especially on social media. And I think that is totally wrong.

The Enchanting Blaise Castle Estate

Blaise Castle Estate is the 650 acres of beautiful parkland surrounding Blaise Castle House Museum, which once formed the private estate of the house when it was still in use as a family mansion. These days, the estate is open to the public and is free to use. It is also absolutely magical.
The estate was built and landscaped in the the late 18th century, a time when it was fashionable to create an idealised version of a rural idyll in the grounds of big country houses. Blaise is one such place, and the combination of parkland and storybook buildings combines to give a wonderfully fairy tale air. The first hint of this is given by the quaint dairy house, with thatched roof and pastel paintwork. It looks like a cottage straight from a fairy story, and it reminds me a little of the house Giselle lives in at the beginning of Enchanted.

Strawberry Solstice

My Desk

Back in winter, I gave my partner my old Ikea desk, so that he could have a bit of personal space in our increasingly Polly-influenced flat. After struggling to work on a tiny folding table for months, I finally had the bright idea of setting up a desk in the conservatory. It's a good space for me to work in-lots of natural light, slightly separate from our living area, and lots of plants for company.

A Day In Oxford

A little while ago I hopped on a train and headed to Oxford for the day. I had wanted to visit this intriguing and beautiful city for quite some time, so I was very excited! When the train arrived I wandered in the vague direction of the city centre until I found Mill Stream Walk.

Blaise Castle House Museum

Blaise Castle House Museum is a beautiful 18th century mansion house on the outskirts of Bristol, filled with objects which show how people lived through history. Both the exterior and the interior of the house are stunning, with lots of original details-there was even a fireplace in the public toilets! The impressive picture room was particularly gorgeous, with sumptuous red wall paper, a domed ceiling and a fine collection of paintings. Blaise Castle House is licensed for people to get married in this room-I think a wedding here would be wonderfully atmospheric.

National Museum Cardiff, An Unexpected Gem

When we decided to visit National Museum Cardiff on our Cardiff trip, I imagined that it would be a quick look around before we headed somewhere else. I couldn't have been more wrong.
