#CreativeKickstart January

#CreativeKickstart is a hashtag to share what we've been making and being inspired by each month, created by my merfriend Cuttlefishlove. I kept up with it for a few months last year but then lost track. This year I want to post a photo for each month. I think it will be really interesting to look back at the end of the year and see my creative journey!

Thrifted Fabric Haul

Despite my success with thrifting pretty much everything else-clothes, furniture, ornaments, jewellery- I've never had success with thrifting fabrics. That was, until recently, when the thrifting gods smiled on me. Oh boy, did they smile.

So first up is probably the most unusual fabric of the bunch, and that's saying something because they're all rather...eccentric. This fabric has all sorts-pumpkins, squash, fungi, acorns, pine cones, and for some reason holly. I'm not really sure which season this is meant to be for, whether it is for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Yule/Christmas or all of the above. Whatever, I absolutely love it, and there is a lot of it. It's a really soft cotton fabric, probably a quilting fabric. I'm looking forward to making something cute to wear with my pumpkin handbag I thrifted a while back.

#Creative365 Days 30-43

I'm going to be honest, I'm having a bit of a creative slump. Not because I don't have ideas, but because I have too many of them, and as a result have a chronic case of starting-and-not-finishing-itus. Added to that, there was a terrible crafting calamity (read on for more on that) which has made me feel a bit rubbish about finishing things off. But, I shall persevere. I'm also having issues making time for a decent amount of crafting, thanks to blogging and social media and various other distractions. I think I'm going to have to swear off the internet a bit. Anyway, here's what I got up to.

On day 30 I drew a few rough sketches of things I wanted to make. I really need to spend more time on planning and designing my projects.

Fabric and Craft Supply Haul

Having massively thinned out my fabric and craft supply collection, committed to using my current stash, and refrained from buying any more materials for months, I then fell off the wagon. And not being one to do things by halves, I fell SPECTACULARLY off the wagon. So spectacularly in fact, that I have to split my haul up into several posts. But I just couldn't resist all the delectable goodies!

After years of avoiding the place for the sake of my savings and my storage space, I ventured to Fabric Land. One of my purchases was this incredible purple/blue shimmer fabric, which is also stretchy. It changes colour with the light, looking deep purple, royal blue and bright turquoise at different moments. This will almost certainly be made into something mermaid-y.

Brighton Beach

I think when people imagine Brighton Beach, the stereotypical images of a sunny beach filled with tourists and locals all sunbathing on towels spring to mind.
