#CreativeKickstart April

#CreativeKickstart is a hashtag to share what we've been making and being inspired by each month, created by my merfriend Cuttlefishlove. I kept up with it for a few months last year but then lost track. This year I want to post a photo for each month. I think it will be really interesting to look back at the end of the year and see my creative journey!

Bute Park and the Animal Wall

Bute Park is a very beautiful and very large park, right in the heart of Cardiff. It was once the grounds of Cardiff Castle, but it was presented to Cardiff Castle in 1947 and became a public space, managed by the council. The park consists of 130 acres of mature parkland, an arboretum, flower gardens and a sculpture trail. The River Taff runs through the park, as does a canal, which was previously a mill stream which fed a mill by Cardiff Castle.

The Magical Castell Coch

Rising out of a picturesque woodland, on a hill above the Welsh village of Tongwynlais, Castell Coch (Red Castle) is like something straight from a fairy tale, and visiting feels like stepping into the pages of an epic fantasy.

Fairy Tale Thrift Haul

Over the last year or so I feel like I've really started to define my style and tastes, and they definitely lean towards fairy tale and fantasy aesthetics and influences. Unfortunately, unless I want to spend a lot of money, this isn't something that's very readily available on the high street! But charity shops and second hand places have yielded some gems, especially in recent months.

A particular favourite is this amazing vintage biscuit tin, which has been printed and stamped to look like gilded wood set with jewels. I have never seen anything like it before, and I really love it. It looks like something from an Arthurian legend, and would probably fit in perfectly at Cardiff Castle. It is currently home to some of my many pencils and paintbrushes.

Travelling Down The River Taff By Boat

While we were in Cardiff we decided to take a trip down the River Taff on one of the Aquabus ferry services. Not only was this a great way to see a different side to the city, it also ticked of number 76 from my 101 in 1001 list, go on a boat.

Cardiff Castle: The Apartments

As interesting and beautiful as the walls and keep of Cardiff Castle were, I have to admit that my main reason for wanting to visit was the magnificent Castle Apartments.
