#CreativeKickstart is a hashtag to share what we've been making and being inspired by each month, created by my merfriend Cuttlefishlove. I kept up with it for a few months last year but then lost track. This year I want to post a photo for each month. I think it will be really interesting to look back at the end of the year and see my creative journey! In the photo for March I have included:
Fairytale influences- I visited some very fairy tale-esque castles in Wales in March (see here and here), and found them really inspiring. I made the bodice (the teal animal patterned piece) and the rust coloured dress in the background of the photo to wear to the castles, as I wanted to look like a fairy tale princess. Then when I saw the amazing architecture and decor of the castles, I wanted to make even more things! I'd love to go back to one of the castles and do a fairy tale inspired photo shoot one day. I was also very drawn to fairy tale illustrations, fantastical mushrooms and toadstools, and magical creatures. I decorated my planner to be more fairy tale inspired, using some amazing toadstool stickers, fake iridescent pearls and aurora borealis rhinestones.
My planner- For a long time I was trying to keep my planner very minimalist and neat, but that is just not me. I moved the inserts out of the black leather binder I had been using, and into this new, colourful binder which I think suits me better. I then went all out and decorated the cover and the pages with stickers and decorations, and now I feel much more inclined to use it. I am a creative person and I think all aspects of my life need to reflect that!
Mermaid influences- Maybe it's something to do with the sunlight finally returning, but my mind turned once again to mermaid things in March. I made a lot of polymer clay seashells, decorated a seashell shaped mirror, and learned how to make polymer clay octopus tentacles.
Polymer clay- I had really gone off using polymer clay after burning and ruining an entire tray of finished pieces, but I bought a lot of new packs in bright colours during March, and I feel happy using it again now. It's especially fun playing with such colourful materials!
Colour- I have realised I just really love colour. I especially leaned towards red in March, making a red dress, and buying a red oilcloth tablecloth for my desk. I seem to like very pastel colours, like the soft rainbow of the scarf I am knitting, or very intense colours, like the deep red tablecloth and vibrant teal bodice.
My work space- During March I decided to clear and tidy my workspace, and it has made such a difference! I not only wanted it to be tidy, I wanted it to be inspiring, so I have arranged lots of inspirational objects from books to crystals. In the photo you can see one of my mugs of tools and pens, to which I added some fake succulents, toadstools, and a little robin ornament. Small touches of whimsy like that make my desk such an enjoyable space to work at.
