I finally got around to watching My Neighbour Totoro recently (yes, yes, I know), and it reminded me that I'd never blogged about this little guy. He was one of the first things I ever needlefelted, and he was originally intended to be a gift. But once he was finished I just couldn't bear to give him away...can you blame me?
Since Totoro is a forest spirit, I thought it appropriate to photograph my tiny Totoro in the garden. He looked right at home.
I took this picture to try to show how tiny he is, but I've realised using my hands for scale really doesn't work, as they're unusually small.
So here's a better idea of just how tiny he is. I made him up as I went along, working from an image I found on the internet. I think he took a couple of hours all in all, although I'd only just started needlefelting at that point. He'd probably be quicker to work up now I've had more practice.
Now that I've seen the film I think I might try needlefelting some companions for him...a Chibi Totoro perhaps, and maybe some acorns. Plus I definitely need a tiny Chuu (blue) Totoro!
If anyone is interested in a tutorial for Totoro, let me know in the comments!
